Birthstone Workshop with Mary-Jeanine Ibarguen
Create your very own bling! Simple (but complex looking) piecing techniques
that delivers a gorgeous 17” square birthstone gem. Combine family gemstones
into a small wall-hanging for Mother’s Day, birth announcements, wedding
anniversaries, pillows, totes or all twelve gems make a stunning bed quilt.
Join Mary-Jeanine, a certified Gem Affiliate, as you create your custom gem stone with a pattern
designed by MJ Kinman, Textile Artist, recently featured in Issue 12 of Quiltfolk
Magazine. Visit https://mjkinman.com/ to see her gem stone quilts and the pattern choices.
You will learn a unique form of freezer paper piecing that will be useful for other art quilts
you may want to create. Mary-Jeanine has lots of tips for your success with
these modern blocks.

Two options on the fabric kits: Mary-Jeanine will have some kits precut for exactly what is needed, those are $12 each. Once those run out for a particular gem, there are fat quarter bundles that range in price from $15 to $24 (it depends on the number of fabrics in a gem, of course).
The FQ bundles often have enough fabric to make two of that gem, in case someone wants to do so.

The guild provides irons and ironing surfaces. If you bring your own ironing surface, it must be solid (no roll up pads) as heat transfers through and ruins the plastic tables.

Mary-Jeanine Ibarguen is the publisher of the popular Florida Quilt Network website and newsletter, as well as a quilting teacher and lecturer. She's been quilting for 34 years and teaching for 20 years, all over the state of Florida, plus a few other states! Mary-Jeanine has published six patterns, appeared on a sewing TV show and has developed a popular series of lectures on Stashbusting Quilts & Quick Projects.
Her specialty is adding extras to the learning process, whether it’s a quick lesson in pressing, how to clean and change rotary blades, or new thoughts on free motion quilting designs. She recently became a 'Gem Affiliate', which means she's certified to teach all the patterns created by MJ Kinman, Textile Artist. Mary-Jeanine is available to teach at quilt guilds, quilt shops, workshops, retreats, and private events.
Mary-Jeanine resides in Maitland, Fl with her husband. Now that they are empty-nesters, they are in the process of building their dream home, a place that is eco-friendly, solar-powered, with an edible landscape, and walkable to nearby shops & restaurants. She is also an active volunteer with her church and community, as well as one of the quilt teachers at the nearby Sewing Studio..
